Recycling used tyres for sport and play: a good thing for climate protection
Waste becomes recyclable material: the recycling of used tyres

NEW LIFE©
Around 44.35 million used tyres are generated in Germany every year. The NEW LIFE initiative has set itself the goal of not letting this valuable resource go to waste, but is committed to returning it to the cycle by recycling it. The tyres are broken down into their components: Textile fibres, steel wire and, above all, rubber/rubber.
Rubber granulate: the all-rounder made from used tyres

The rubber from used tyres is processed into rubber granulate and rubber powder in special recycling plants. This material is extremely versatile and is used in numerous products, particularly for sports and playground construction.
Sustainable solutions for sport and play
Sports floors that can do more
Resilient floor coverings made from recycled tyre rubber granules meet the highest safety, health and performance requirements both indoors and outdoors. The sustainable rubber floors are robust, weather-resistant, non-slip, easy on the joints, easy to clean and, with optional fall protection, also protect against falls from heights of up to three metres. The recycled products, which are available in a wide range of shapes, colours and designs, also open up new design freedom. A clear path for top performance. A well-rounded solution for climate protection.
Products made from tyre rubber granulate in gardening and landscaping
The recycled rubber granulate from old tyres is a high-quality secondary raw material for the production of attractive, environmentally friendly solutions for future-oriented garden, landscape and sports field construction. The products made from recycled rubber granulate are sustainable, weather-resistant, non-slip, easy to lay and can be customised in terms of shape and colour. The product spectrum ranges from floor coverings for sports fields, playgrounds and terraces to edgings for paths and flowerbeds, elastic layers for modern artificial turf and noise barriers, building protection layers for green roofs or photovoltaic systems and weatherproof lamps, vases and design objects. A well-rounded solution for climate protection.
The advantages of rubber granulate floors in detail

Safety and protection
Safety surfaces made of rubber granules minimise the risk of injury on playgrounds and offer additional safety in sports facilities.

Comfort and performance
Elastic sports floors made of rubber granules are easy on the joints, improve performance and offer a high level of walking comfort.

Sustainability and environmental friendliness
The use of recycled rubber granulate conserves resources, avoids waste and reduces CO2 emissions.

Versatility and design
Rubber granulate floors are available in various colours, shapes and designs and therefore offer a wide range of design options.
NEW LIFE: For a green future in sports and playground construction
The NEW LIFE initiative is committed to a sustainable circular economy and shows how used tyre recycling can make an important contribution to environmental protection.
About NEW LIFE

The NEW LIFE initiative and its partners are committed to a sustainable tyre recycling economy. By recycling used tyres, valuable secondary raw materials are obtained and natural resources are conserved. The product spectrum ranges from elastic impact protection surfaces and floor tiles for sports facilities to noise barriers.
Together with eight partners, the NEW LIFE initiative is committed to a sustainable tyre recycling economy that avoids hundreds of thousands of tonnes of waste every year in Germany alone, saves CO2 emissions and conserves natural resources (especially rubber).
Used tyres are sent for climate-friendly recycling by certified waste management companies (ZARE). This keeps valuable secondary raw materials (textile fibres, steel wire and, above all, rubber/rubber) in the cycle.
The rubber recovered from used tyres is ground into high-purity granulate and used to manufacture a variety of high-quality recycled products.
The product spectrum ranges from elastic fall protection flooring and floor slabs for paths, terraces, sports facilities and trade fairs to building protection layers for roofs with greenery and/or photovoltaic systems, noise barriers and rubber-modified asphalt. Products made from used tyre rubber granulate are robust, recyclable, durable, weather-resistant and require minimal care and maintenance.
Partners of the NEW LIFE initiative are Conradi+Kaiser, Estato Umweltservice, Genan, KRAIBURG Relastec, KURZ Karkassenhandel, Melos, MRH Mülsen and REGUPOL.
NEW LIFE at FSB 2025

© NEW LIFE
The NEW LIFE initiative is an important partner of FSB and is committed to the recycling of used tyres according to the cradle-to-cradle approach, especially for recycled products in the sports and fitness industry. NEW LIFE is currently conducting a survey on sustainability in fitness centres, sports and exercise facilities. It is investigating how green the industry really is and what significance this has for users.
NEW LIFE was already represented at FSB in 2023 with the Climate School Day. In 2025, the initiative will focus on the topic of ‘Circular economy recycling products for the sports and fitness industry’ and present the results of the current survey on the first day of the trade fair in Koelnmesse's Congress Centre.
